Somatics is an approach to well-being which includes a deep understanding of our physicality in relation to our environment. Somatic therapy uses many skills and tools to assist the client to move from a passive role to recognition of their own self-healing capacity.
Frans' unique style is based on her personal history, values, individual talent, training and influences. She qualified as a Somatic therapist with the Sydney College - "Somatics" in 1997 and continues to study with her mentors Dr Julie Henderson and Dr Tony Richardson. Fran studied Chinese Medical Qigong with Master Pam Timmers 1995-6 and has also studied Hatha Yoga with many fine teachers including Donnah Farhi and Judith Lasater.
The work of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen (Body Mind Centering) has also influenced her approach to somatics. The basis of Fran's work is founded in her ability to attune to her client. Letting go of having to know what to do and attending instead to what can be seen and felt, leads to a deep level of connection. Spontaneity allows people to feel themselves directly rather than construct realities from ideas about themselves.
Fran's practice of Somatics includes gentle, non-invasive body-work called Ortho -bionomy that activates the self-corrective reflexes to effectively relieve acute and chronic pain. Other skills used in her work include listening, questioning, visualization, yoga and medical qigong.
Every client is unique and valued. Some people come purely for bodywork, others are interested to
look below the surface for what may be behind their symptoms.
Real change occurs when the underlying feelings are felt and understood.
"There is an experience that you are not conditioned to believe.
It's an experience of yourself when the mask lifts
and the real you can come through.
And it's shinning, and it's unique, because it's you.
A creation.
A masterpiece’.
